Replanting
If you are thinking of replanting your land, please consider the following points:
- 1. Will nature take care of the area by itself ie is replanting really necessary?
- 2. Cost of replanting including water crystals, soil wetting agent, weed mats, plant guards
- 3. Time involved to care for new areas of planting eg watering, weed control
- 4. Choose appropriate species of plants for our region.
We will soon have available lists of indigenous plants for our area, for different vegetation zones. We encourage residents to choose from these lists when it comes to revegetating their properties.
Please note that participants of Melbourne Water's Stream Frontage Management Program should have their property assessed for any requirement for replanting as orders of plants will need to be done by MW prior to Spring.
For people requiring assistance with planting, there are offers of help available from volunteer groups such as the Landcare Buddies for Bushfire Recovery Program.
Plants guards and weed mats are available at wholesale prices from the Strathewen Landcare Group.
